The Brussels Urban Transport Museum or Tramway Museum is housed in the Woluwe-Saint-Pierre listed depot along Avenue de Tervuren in Brussels.

After several constructions, the first railway lodge on the continent, in 1835, the city also played a pioneering role in the field of urban rail transport1 The first horse-drawn omnibus cars appeared in Brussels around 1860, period of rapid urban development outside the old city limits following the abolition of the grant. Since 1866, the municipality has awarded the first line of horse-drawn tramway on rails, called the "American tram" to the Belgian Street Railways company. This first line allows for the surrender of the Sainte-Marie de Schaerbeek church in Bois de la Cambre on rue Royale and all new avenue Louise. Ten years later, the village may even have a rail line to the suburbs, as Paris still does not have one. It’s not like 1900 that horses will be gradually replaced by electric motors. On the way to discover the trams in the districts of the city, and understand the narrow and steep street of the center. Well, without the pressure from the automobile, tram lines have been removed or replaced by buses or metro lines, the "tram" is one of the symbols of Brussels. Having become competitive again thanks to so-called “own-site” routes which greatly increase its commercial speed, it is once again becoming an economical alternative to the private automobile, the number of which saturates traffic and major metro-type infrastructure works.

Hosted by volunteers, the tram museum traces its history by presenting more than sixty vehicles dating from 1868 to 1969, from horse-drawn cars, trolleybuses, to the famous chocolate trams and cars with trailers and power supply by quéconnect from their Cable ("Jef, de flèch is af!", "Jef, the arrow has fallen!"), Even if the bus.

After 1982, the Museum is open from Easter to the first weekend of October every Saturday, Sunday and public holiday from 1.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. After major renewals, the museum is open again after the first weekend of April 2010. The opening hours are from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The historic trams run, in regular service (only on weekends from April to October) on the Woluwe - Tervueren (Royal Museum for Central Africa) lines via the Forêt de Soignes and on Woluwe - Cinquantenaire (to the museums of The Army, Art and History and Autoworld) In addition, the line to the fiftieth anniversary is also operated (Sundays only) by means of old buses.

The museum also organizes (all year round) tours in historic trams through the city. Note also that the location of museums, but also vehicles (trams and buses) is possible.

The MTUB also organizes the BBT (Brussels Touristic Tramway). Every Sunday, from the first Sunday in April to the first Sunday in October, in our proposals to discover Brussels and its history by covering 35 km in a historical route dating from 1935. The guide will show you the treasures, sometimes well hidden, of the capital and will tell brings together a host of little anecdotes about it.

The museum's current is published each month in the monthly "Tram 2000 (magazine)".

The Tram Museum operates two tram lines and one bus line. The tram lines are operated on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays of the season, while the bus line is only operated on Sundays.
