Most of Cahuita consists of swampy depressions between the continental shelf. Other habitats in the park are mixed flooded forests and littoral jungle on the coast. An interesting element in the park is the presence of a ship stranded many years ago near the mouth of the Perezoso River, which in the 18th century was used to transport slaves.
