Cerro San Cristóbal is located in the city of Santiago, capital of Chile. At 880 meters above sea level, it is the second highest point in the city, surpassed only by the Renca hill. Its original name was Cerro Tupahue, being renamed in honor of San Cristóbal by the conqueror Pedro de Valdivia.
Cerro San Cristóbal is part of a group of mountains, together with the hills Chacarillas, La Pirámide and Los Gemelos, which are part of the Metropolitan Park of Santiago, one of the largest urban parks in the world, with more than 722 hectares of extension .
At its top, the amphitheater and its Shrine, welcomed Pope John Paul II on his 1987 visit.
Pío Nono Santiago
It is located on the south west slope of the Santiago Metropolitan Park, close to the main access to this, at 450 Pio Nono street
Cerro San Cristóbal is one of the best panoramic viewpoints in the city. It is advisable to visit it in the morning, in order to have a better view. This hill is part of the Metropolitan Park, it can be climbed on foot, by bicycle, taxi, car, cable car or funicular. It is recommended to take the cable car or the funicular.
It is possible to enjoy a full day in this park. There is a zoological garden, a wine museum, a cultural center, restaurants, gift shops, green areas, swimming pools, a Japanese botanical garden and spectacular views of the city. It is a popular place to exercise (walk, jog, bike), especially on the weekends.
