In Athens, the classic sightseeing tour includes a visit to the famous Hadrian's Arch, a pentelic marble building located southeast of the Acropolis, in the space where the Roman Agora is. This arch was built by the Romans in the city, is the typical arch of triumph and is magnificent that is still preserved in the same place.
Hadrian's Arch is there, on the border between the ancient city of Athens and the new neighborhood created by the Roman emperor.
This triumphal arch of pentelic marble, located southeast of the Acropolis and in the space occupied by the Roman Agora, was erected by the Athenians in honor of Hadrian. It was built on the border separating the old city of Athens and the new neighborhood created by the Roman emperor. The inscriptions of the arch frieze highlight this division: on the side facing the Acropolis, you can read: "Here is ancient Athens, the city of Theseus."
