Nestling amid 250 acres of parkland in the heart of the beautiful Wirral peninsula, this magnificent Grade II listed hotel boasts genuine luxury and a fascinating history.
Containing numerous architectural fittings from famous British designers and historical figures, Hillbark offers sophisticated suites and bedrooms, individually furnished with due care and attention by the resident owners and staff.
Dine in the Riviera Restaurant where the chef team will offer an inspired yet simple and delicious interpretation of French Mediterranean, Ligurian and Niçoise cuisine. With culinary influences of the Côte d’Azur, the main goal is for simple, flavoured packed food, all served in a relaxed environment for our guests.
Luxury and vintage cars can be arranged to collect and bring you to this unique location. Tailored solutions can be offered to conferences, weddings and other events. At the heart of the beautiful Wirral peninsula, Hillbark is surrounded by places of interest.
Vibrant Liverpool with it's superb shopping, cultural and maritime attractions and nightlife is just 15 minutes away, as is the walled Roman city of Chester which has a wealth of history and exclusive shops.
Across the River Dee lie the mountains and coastal resorts of North Wales, whilst the Wirral itself offers world class golf courses, sailing, windsurfing and many leisure pursuits, 30 miles of coastline, nature reserves and a host of other attractions all within easy reach. Set in 250 acres of beautiful parkland and overlooking the scenic Dee estuary across to the hills of North Wales, Hillbark’s character appearance hides a fascinating history.
The house was originally built in 1891 (on Bidston Hill in Birkenhead) for the soap manufacturer Robert William Hudson. Hillbark was sold in 1921 to Sir Ernest Royden and in 1928 was moved to its present site, brick by brick, finally being completed in 1931.
The house contains a variety of interesting features: the Great Hall has a 1527 Jacobean fireplace from Sir Walter Raleigh’s house, a set of William Morris stained glass windows and a pair of 13th century church screen doors; the library was originally in a stately home in Gloucestershire; and the Yellow Room restaurant contains a magnificent 1795 Robert Adam fire surround.
