Traditional houses are the trademark of the archipelago. The creation of the municipality of Santana happens in 1835 and the elevation to the city takes place in the year 2000.
From very early on, it was characterized by the traditional Madeiran historiography, as one of the most charming and picturesque places on the Island, marked from the point of view of traditional architecture, typical thatched houses and, in the landscape plan, the boulevards of buxos and hydrangeas.
