Paipa was founded in 1539 by Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada, it is one of the main tourist destinations in the departments for its thermal waters and excellent hotel infrastructure.
The formation of Paipa as a populated center dates back to pre-Columbian times when its population was native to the region corresponding to the chiefdom of Tundama, authentic warriors defending their culture and riches from the Temple of Suamox challenged by the invasion of the Spanish in the year 1537 with the fire of the Temple of the Sun.
The municipality of Paipa is located in the Sogamoso Valley, one of the most important internal valleys of the Andean region, in the eastern central part of the Country and northwestern part of the Boyacá department at 2525 meters above sea level, it is approximately 184 km away from Bogotá and 40 km from Tunja (see map). Its municipal seat is located at 5 ° 47 'north latitude and 73 ° 06' west longitude.

Paipa Hot Springs
The hot springs constitute a complex of approximately 5 hectares and includes a number of public pools and others with a private environment, as well as sports facilities, shops and cafes.
The water comes from an underground lake, the waters of which spring from there and from where it is sent through pipes to various establishments in the sector.
The hot springs were visited in 1801 by Alejandro de Humboldt, who was impressed by the quality of their water.
