Gebouwd op het terrein van een paleis uit de Renaissance, het Convento Congregados toestemming krijgen D. Pedro II voor de bouw in 1697. Hun project, toegekend aan João Antunes, dezelfde auteur van de kerk van Santa Engracia in Lissabon, is een van de kopieën die de Italiaanse invloed in de zeventiende eeuwse Portugese barok reflecteert.
