The parish of Canhas has in agriculture its main economic activity.
This territory inherited its name from one of its first settlers, João de Canha, who was squire of D. Diogo, Duke of Viseu.
It is a colorful parish known for its monuments:
Saint Teresa of the Child Jesus - constituted by a niche and above, a statue of Christ on the cross. It is adorned with three arches in stonework around it.
The Way of the Cross - The Lord of the Mountain on the access road to Paul da Serra.
Our Lady of the Sierra.
Here is also a Water Clock, built in 1890, which served to regulate the distribution of water.
Enjoy the Mother Church, built in the Neo-Navarrese and Neo-Baroque style, built in the 18th century and remodeled in the 20th century.
In this parish, you can also visit the Chapel of Our Lady of the Angels, a Mannerist building of rectangular plant founded in the XV century and restored in the XIX century, with a neoclassical main altarpiece of white and gold carving.
Passing to the beautiful plateau of Paul da Serra, the rural parish of Canhas is worth a stop. Every year, this locality holds the sugar cane fair, an event that celebrates the predominant culture of sugarcane, from which the regional spirit used to make drinks and some delicacies is extracted.
