According to colonial chronicles, a people called Pumpus migrated from the jungle to the department of Pasco, who faced the Incas and ended up integrating them into Tahuantinsuyo.

Cerro de Pasco was the attraction of the Spaniards, because the mining site was located on this site.

The colonization of the jungle became a very important issue for politicians, the same ones who tried through young foreigners to invade lands and establish ascents in this area. The population resisted the challenges who until today preserve their traditions.

The republic implied a renovation in Pasco, the construction of the central railway (Lima-La Oroya-Cerro de Pasco), which gave new life to the mining industry at the beginning of the last century.
