Presentation
Marajó Island is the largest river-maritime archipelago on the planet, bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Amazon and Tocantins rivers, Marajó Island, in Pará, Brazil. There are 12 cities around the island of Marajó. Its nature, very well preserved, hides an almost unexplored area of the Amazon rainforest. Even the capital, Soure, has a reputation as a “city that has stopped in time”.
How to get
Car
From the South, Southeast and Midwest, go to Belém. From there take the boat to Soure. Driving by car is not cheap.
Bus
Take a bus to Belém and from there the boat to Soure. The Belém bus station, in the São Brás neighborhood, receives lines from the main Brazilian cities. As it is a short distance from the port, you can take a taxi or shuttle bus to the pier. For those who will cross without a car, there are three options: the Henvil Nav46 ferries, the Apari Navegar boats or the Tapajós Expresso catamaran. The latter is faster, but a little more expensive. All companies have ticket counters for the purchase of tickets at Belém's own bus station.
Airplane
If you prefer to fly to Belem, Belém Val-de-Cans - Júlio Cezar Ribeiro International Airport is the most convenient. Receives flights from all regions of Brazil. At Belém Airport it is possible to rent a car, take a taxi or the shuttle bus to the port. There is also air taxi service to Marajó Island.

Weather
As in most of the Amazon rainforest, Marajó Island is flooded during the rainy season. You will lose much of the pleasure of visiting the beaches and island activities at this time of year. So if you can, visit Marajó Island between June and January.
Tourist points
Visiting Marajó Island is to know a different Brazil, with its own culture, which you will not find in other regions of the country. Tourist attractions such as: Araruna Farm, which is the main farm hotel in the region; São Jerônimo Farm, where one of the main attractions is the buffalo ride through the mangroves; Ruins located in the municipality of Joanes, the ruins of a church built by the Jesuits in the seventeenth century delight tourists.
