Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world and the largest in South America. Its area is 8,300 square kilometers, with a length of 150 kilometers and an average width of 50 km. The temperature of its waters varies between 10 and 12 ° C so it is possible to swim and fish. You can catch trout, silverside and other native fish. There is also a great diversity of birds. You can see ducks, geese, flamingos, Andean ibis, seagulls, etc. There are also many llamas and alpacas in the surroundings.
It is the center of conjunction of two great cultures: Quechua and Aymara; those that fostered an incomparable heritage of customs, rites and beliefs.
Lake Titicaca is located on the Collao plateau in the southern highlands of Peru and at an altitude of 3,830 meters above sea level (10 blocks from the main square). The lake is shared by Peru and Bolivia.
This lake is very important in Andean mythology because, according to the legend of its waters, Manco Cápac and Mama Ocllo emerged, children of the Sun god and founders of the Inca Empire.
