Puquio capital of the province of Lucanas since 1875, this city has its beginnings in the year 1737, the year in which the mother church was completed.

Previously, the city of Puquio was located in the place called Ccollpamayu, a site where today there are ruins of ancient buildings. Our grandparents tell us that the city was moved as a result of an earthquake that totally destroyed the city, so the population moved to the place where we are because it is safer and more resistant to earthquakes.

The reason for the existence of this city does not require any scholar but the movements and activities make us suppose that this city was formed as a result of the mining settlements that leave as testimony the great existence of mineral mills that later were transformed into grain mills One of the stories says that in the place called Sacsa there were a chain of mills which received cargoes of minerals transferred on the back of a beast, and that this place was lined with a floor of gold and silver.

Since Puquio is installed as Capital of the Province of Lucanas, historical events are only oral, some graphic files bear witness to important events that show the great determination of the Lucanians to get ahead.

The construction of the highway from Nasca to Puquio is a historical fact that demonstrates the will of union that the Lucanines conserve until today, they opened a 160 km highway in just 29 days without having machinery and the construction of the Pachaya dam that shows the effort of their communities to get ahead

The current city of Puquio is made up of its four peasant communities, Ccayao, Pichccachuri, Chaupi and CCollana, which are also called neighborhoods, and the recent ones are Matara, San Martín, La Florida, Santa Rosa.

The Qeronta thermal baths located on the Puquio - Andamarca route at more than four thousand meters high, are small springs of boiling, salty and sulphurous water. In the river the water is blue due to minerals, and the earth is calcareous, a volcano must sleep in the depths. A two-piece house with a corrugated iron roof contains a couple of pools of hot and warm water. People say that its waters give or restore fertility, and you can have twins or triplets, in addition to recovering health and happiness. The hot waters reach more than 40 degrees of temperature.
