Actuellement occupé par la Pousada da Rainha Santa Isabel, l'ancien palais royal médiéval a été adapté à un entrepôt de guerre sous le règne du roi João V (1707-1750) en 1736, avec Carlos Andreis fournissant une assistance technique pour les travaux. C'est l'un des meilleurs exemples du Joãoo Baroque d'Estremoz, avec son plan pentagonal et ses flancs de tourelles cylindriques. À noter: la cour trapézoïdale avec une fontaine centrale avec une fontaine en marbre pour les dauphins; l'escalier d'accès à la salle des armes avec deux types de panneaux de carreaux, l'un bleu et blanc à rayures baroques et arabesques naturalistes, inspiré de la tapisserie orientale, et un autre à motifs floraux floraux, johanniques du XVIIIe siècle; la salle des armes, où il y a encore des portes dorées et polychromes avec des boucliers royaux.

Au centre du village médiéval, se trouve le donjon, l'un des mieux conservés du pays. D'une hauteur d'environ 27 mètres, il possède une plante quadrangulaire et est couronné de merlons de forme pyramidale. Typique de l'architecture militaire portugaise de la fin du XIIIe et du début du XIVe siècle, il s'agit de ce qui reste du primitif alcáçova, ainsi que de l'édifice du XIIIe siècle du Paços do Concelho. Au deuxième étage se trouve une belle salle octogonale avec des colonnes de chapiteaux animaliers et anthropomorphes.
Sur la terrasse se trouvent les Trois Couronnes, représentant, selon certains auteurs, les trois règnes dans lesquels se sont déroulés les travaux de son implantation.
Sur la face principale, au sud, les bras de D. Afonso III (1245-1279) sont représentés par deux anges qui les protègent.
