Momenteel bezet door de Pousada da Rainha Santa Isabel, werd het oude middeleeuwse koninklijke paleis aangepast aan een oorlogsopslagplaats tijdens het bewind van koning João V (1707-1750) in 1736, waarbij Carlos Andreis technische assistentie verleende voor de werken. Het is een van de beste voorbeelden van de barokke Joãoino in Estremoz, met een vijfhoekig plan en geflankeerd door cilindrische torentjes. Let op: de trapezoïdale binnenplaats met een centrale fontein met marmeren dolfijnen fontein; de trap van toegang tot de Hall of Arms met twee soorten tegelpanelen, een tot blauw en wit met barokke strepen en naturalistische arabesken, geïnspireerd op het oosterse tapijtwerk, en een andere van florale, 18de-eeuwse Johannijnse bloemmotieven; de Hall of Arms, waar nog enkele vergulde en polychrome deuren met koninklijke schilden zijn.

In het centrum van het middeleeuwse dorp staat de Keep, een van de best bewaard gebleven in het land. Het is ongeveer 27 meter hoog en heeft een vierhoekige plant en wordt in piramidevorm gekroond met merlons. Kenmerkend voor de Portugese militaire architectuur van de late dertiende en vroege veertiende eeuw, het is wat overblijft van het primitieve Alcácova, samen met het dertiende-eeuwse gebouw van de Paços do Concelho. Op de tweede verdieping is er een prachtige achthoekige kamer met kolommen van dierlijke en antropomorfe hoofdsteden.
Op het terras staan de zogenaamde Drie Kronen, die volgens sommige auteurs de drie regeerperiodes vertegenwoordigen waarin de werken van de implantatie plaatsvonden.
In het hoofdgezicht, in het zuiden, zijn de armen van D. Afonso III (1245-1279) afgebeeld met twee engelen die hen beschermen.
