Sollevato in uno dei punti più alti della catena montuosa di Ossa, nel centro della città, dalla cima delle sue mura domina in gran parte intorno, fino al Castello di Estremoz.
Il castello, in muratura di pietra e pietra di granito, presenta una pianta quadrangolare con torrette circolari ai vertici, che fonde elementi di stile gotico con lo stile rinascimentale dell'ispirazione italiana. Internamente è diviso in tre piani, con soffitti a volta, basati su pilastri in pietra. Nelle torrette più larghe alla base che nella parte superiore, le visiere sono strappate. I panni sono decorati con nodi scolpiti nella pietra, tipici dello stile manuelino.
Il castello e la recinzione del villaggio erano considerati Monumento Nazionale con Decreto pubblicato il 23 giugno 1910.
