Opgegroeid in een van de hoogste punten van de bergketen van Ossa, in het centrum van de stad, vanaf de top van de muren domineert een grote mate rond, tot aan het kasteel van Estremoz.
Het kasteel, in stenen metselwerk en granieten metselwerk, beschikt over een vierhoekig plan met ronde torentjes op de hoekpunten, elementen van de gotische stijl mengen met de renaissance-stijl van de Italiaanse inspiratie. Het is intern verdeeld in drie verdiepingen, met gewelfde plafonds, gebaseerd op stenen pilaren. In de bredere torentjes aan de basis dan aan de bovenkant, zijn de vizieren gescheurd. De doeken zijn versierd met in steen gehouwen knopen, typisch voor Manuelijnse stijl.
Het kasteel en het hek van het dorp werden bij decreet op 23 juni 1910 als Nationaal Monument beschouwd.
