Het is allemaal gemaakt van wit marmer, net als alle pilaren van de Raad van Estremoz. Het werd waarschijnlijk verplaatst naar dit plein in 1739, te oordelen naar de inscriptie gegraveerd op de pilaar.

Dit stuk werd gebouwd in 1539, tijdens het bewind van koning Jan III (1521-1557), naar de smaak van de Franse Renaissance, waarschijnlijk beïnvloed door het werk van Chanterenne, een Franse beeldhouwer die in de eerste helft van de 16e eeuw in Portugal werkte.
